Guide

The holiday hours checklist.

Five places customers check before they visit. Update them all in one sitting, and nobody shows up to a locked door.

Before you start.

  1. Decide each date: open as usual, closed, or short hours.
  2. Write the hours down once, in one place, and copy from there.
  3. Check the day after the holiday too. Hours often change then.
  4. Pick the date everything switches back.

1. Your website.

Put the holiday hours on your home page and on your hours or contact page. Say which dates they apply to. Take them down when they end, because an old notice makes every other hour on your site look doubtful.

This is the step Yulpo takes off your plate. He suggests the hours ahead of time and posts them once you say yes.

Yulpo suggests: Thanksgiving is in five weeks. Post your holiday hours now and switch back on the 28th?

You reply: Yes

2. Your listings.

Then match the same hours on each listing. Each one has a place for one off dates.

Google Business Profile

  1. Go to your Business Profile and choose Edit profile, then Hours.
  2. Next to Special hours, choose Edit.
  3. Pick the date, then set the hours or keep Closed checked.
  4. Choose Save.

  1. Log in to Yelp for Business and open Business Information.
  2. Under your hours, add special hours.
  3. Pick a suggested holiday or add your own date.
  4. Mark it closed or set the hours, then save.

Apple Maps

  1. Sign in to Apple Business Connect and open your location.
  2. Under hours, add special hours for the dates.
  3. Mark them open or closed, then save.
  4. Apple asks that your place card hours match your official website.

Facebook

If you have a Facebook Page, check the hours it shows and post a short note with your holiday dates.

3. After the holiday.

  1. Check that each listing has switched back.
  2. Take the notice off your website.
  3. Note what you did, so next year takes half the time.

Questions

Good to know

How far ahead should I post holiday hours?

As soon as you decide. Google, Yelp and Apple all let you set special hours ahead of time.

Should I post hours if I am open as usual?

It helps. Google suggests confirming your hours for official holidays even when they match your regular hours. See Google Business Profile Help.

What if I close for a week or more?

On Google, special hours cover closures of up to 6 days in a row. For 7 days or more, Google suggests marking the business temporarily closed. See Google Business Profile Help.
